As a realtor, I love getting a glimpse into how people live and decorate in their own homes. I’m a shelter mag junky and am always on the lookout for cool, new ideas. I watch what’s happening in the world of design so that I can help inform my clients’ design decisions. Right now I’m in love with dark trim and crown moulding, which looks amazing with the crisp, white walls I adore.
So naturally I had to try it in my own home. My dining room needed an update, so we painted the trim navy, which feels fresh and modern. I had to smile when I heard the Today Show declare gray the hot new color for walls. Years ago, I started advising my clients to paint their homes gray to prepare them for sale, and I often had to fight for it. My clients were convinced gray would look cold or stark, but they ultimately fell in love with the results. And that clean, neutral look helped sell their houses.
While I'll always love a good gray, I'm ready for something new. I think the fresh look for 2017 is crisp, white walls. They create a gallery feel for your artwork and a modern backdrop so your furniture can shine. To set off all that white, I like to add some color to the ceiling. It's bold. It's unexpected. And it's fun.
In this condo, we painted the bedroom ceiling a serene
