As a realtor, I love getting a glimpse into how people live and decorate in their own homes. I’m a shelter mag junky and am always on the lookout for cool, new ideas. I watch what’s happening in the world of design so that I can help inform my clients’ design decisions. Right now I’m in love with dark trim and crown moulding, which looks amazing with the crisp, white walls I adore.

So naturally I had to try it in my own home. My dining room needed an update, so we painted the trim navy, which feels fresh and modern. Working with Rachel Dougan from ViVi Interiors, we also created a wall of artful cabinets. Painted navy and trimmed in brushed gold metal, the cabinets hide things out of sight. Each family

Mirabelle’s Belleburger
Photo: Christian Amolsch

Chris and I really enjoy the exquisite restaurant scene that has blossomed in D.C. But sometimes you just want to sink your teeth into a juicy burger. Amiright? Smart chefs understand that and have added some incredible burger creations to their menus. So what’s a girl to do? Naturally, I must find the very best one. So with our dear friends, Tess and Christian, we embarked on a burger challenge. We take this work very seriously, because…well…it gives us a reason to get out of the house and eat burgers.

So far, we’ve ventured to Le Diplomate, Duke’s Grocery, Blue Duck Tavern, the Salt Line, the Four Seasons and Mirabelle. We each order a different burger and share them. That way, we can sample

Fashion is art, and it’s a form of art that I particularly enjoy. A new dress can really uplift my spirits — I think retail therapy is very much a real thing. There’s something about feeling good in your own skin that makes the world a little bit brighter. And these favorite designers and stores definitely perk up my world (and my wardrobe).

Meg Shops

One of my favorite designers is Meg Kinney, who is based in New York. Her great shapes and fabulous fabrics can go from casual to elegant with a simple change of accessories. I love that Meg is woman-owned, American-made and constructed with care for the environment. And the best part: her clothes all go in the washing machine!

Hands down, my favorite store in D.C. is GoodWood. Anna

Who doesn’t love to sneak a peek in someone’s house? That’s why I helped start the Mt. Pleasant House & Garden Tour as a fundraiser for our amazing neighborhood school, Bancroft Elementary.

This is the fifth year that we’ve held the tour and that I’ve served as co-chair, and it’s one of my favorite days. Not only is it a wonderful event, but it really brings the community together. Organized by Bancroft parents, the goal is to see some beautiful houses but also to learn something about the wonderful school that’s right in our backyard.

We show a variety of houses, including new renovations, historic charm, and the homes of long-term residents. There are seven houses on the tour, on Saturday, April 21, from 2-5 p.m., followed by a cocktail

There’s a difference between a vacation and a family trip. A vacation is lying by the pool with a cocktail in hand and not worrying about anyone drowning, while a family trip is a small child yelling, “I need to pee!” over and over.

Don’t get me wrong – I adore our family trips more than anything, but I don’t come back from them rested, tanned and caught up on my reading. Why do my kids need so many more things when they are in the backseat of the car than when they are at home?!

My husband Chris and I have been going to Miami for years. I just love the vibe there – it’s so relaxed and beautiful. (And the amazing food, natch). I’ve always thought of Miami as such a grown-up getaway, but this time we took the kids with us. It was amazing!

Did you

As a realtor, I run around town all day long. I need to be comfortable, but professional and fashionable. Frankly, I love my shoe game. I’ve got a robust-yet-not-offensively-large shoe wardrobe that gets me everywhere from walking to the gym to work to dinner. Here’s what I literally have in my bag today.

I got these Pierre Hardy shoes on goop. (If you don’t read Gwyneth Paltrow’s blog, you really should.) I was inspired by these Roger Vivier’s, but who is going to spend $1300 on sneakers?! Once I saw these, I knew they fit the bill. And I really do wear them everywhere.

I saw these punk rock ballet slippers in Spain at the Miu Miu store, but resisted. Then my amazing mom sent them to me. Love her!

I found these gorgeous

This year brought a big change in our house. We now have three kids in three schools. Talk about a juggling act! Or really, it’s more like a ballet with carefully choreographed schedules.

Our youngest, Dashiell, is at Amazing Life Games, the most incredible, play-based preschool where all my kids have gone. Alice Jane is in third grade at Bancroft. We are super happy with our lovely neighborhood school. Henry is now in fifth grade and in his first year at Maret, a little private school that perfectly suits the needs of our gentle, quirky boy.

Last year, Henry applied to Maret but didn’t get in. When they called to tell us a spot had opened up, we were thrilled. It didn’t hit home until summer was winding down what that meant for our lives. I

Mt. Pleasant is more than a hot real estate market to me; it’s my home. My husband, Chris, and I have lived here for twelve years, my two older children attend Bancroft Elementary, and we trick-or-treat on Lamont Street every Halloween. Here are some of my favorite spots in Mt. Pleasant.

Each Peach Market – I love to wander through the beautiful displays of gorgeous produce and homemade products. It’s like our own homegrown Dean & Deluca.

Beau Thai– Awesome Thai food for the whole family.

The Zoo – We can hear the lions roar from our front porch!

Don Juan’s – We love to sit outside and nosh on some Salvadoran food.

Bancroft Elementary – A wonderful cross-section of our neighborhood and city. I love that my kids go to a bilingual

Remember when you’d never wear silver earrings with a gold necklace? Then all the chic girls started to mix their jewelry, and now it’s stylish and on point. Fortunately, fashion rules relaxed, and we can safely break all of those old rules.  So I got to thinking, why not do the same thing in our homes? Who says you can’t mix nickel and brass hardware? What is hardware but jewelry for our house, after all?

In this home, I love the way the brass and silver hardware harmonize. To ensure it looks purposeful and interesting, the owners extended the mixed metals to their accessories, like the brass mirror. (After all, we don’t want anyone to think we just forgot to update the hardware.)

Don’t be afraid to question the old rules, whether in your

I love fashion week! I love seeing the runway shows, I love the street style photography -- it's one of my favorite times of year. And I love that fashion is finally catching up and celebrating diversity, whether it’s body, age or ethnic differences. Last week, at New York Fashion Week, plus-size models were a regular feature. Ashley Graham (she is so gorgeous!) opened (I mean, she opened!) for Christian Siriano, who has helped propel the body positive trend in fashion by including women of color and plus-sized models in his shows.

Body shape wasn’t the only diversity on the runway. Chromat designer Becca McCharen-Tran featured Viktoria Modesta, an amputee singer-songwriter, who walked in her prosthetic leg, and breast cancer survivor, Ericka Hart,
